Updated graphics for the Worthy sisters of Another Mother.
Regan Valentine Worthy was named for her maternal grandmother and the day her father proposed to her mother. Raymond was the parent who chose the name because Abigail wanted her to only be named Valentine. Abigail vetoed Raymond’s idea to name her after Abigail’s mother because she hated her mother and headed to the West Coast the day after she graduated high school to get away from her family.
Abigail’s mother, who’s identified as Grandma Padgett in Another Mother, was Regan. While Abigail was recovering from a very difficult delivery, Raymond filled out the paperwork and named the baby Regan Valentine Worthy. Abigail always called her Val, and it wasn’t until she received the birth certificate that she discovered what Ray had done. She wasn’t happy about it but didn’t want to go to the trouble of officially changing Regan’s name, especially since Ray said he wouldn’t support it.
Abigail’s relationship with her mother was reflected in her relationship with her daughter who frequently rebelled against Abigail’s attempts to control her. She continued to refer to Regan as Val and after Regan died, she rarely mentioned either name, referring to her as “your sister” or “my oldest” depending on who she was addressing. Regan was the only one of the daughters who had a middle name. Rosalind’s name came from Ray’s side of the family and Rhiannon was the name of one of Abigail’s teachers. Abigail always liked the way it sounded.
When Rhiannon tells Rosalind that she’s decided to name her daughter Abigail Regan Worthy, Rosalind finds it amusing (but doesn’t mention it to Rhiannon) since she knows the history of the relationship between her mother and Big Sis.

The only clear memory Rhiannon has of her Big Sis around 1970.

The Worthy sisters are featured in the section Sister Act in my novel Another Mother, which was based on my award winning play of the same name.
