The backstory is that Leah toured MIT with her friend Dorothy Gage (Dottie) after she was accepted into the graduate program that led to her earning her Ph.D. (Computer Science). Dottie took the photos and made suggestions on how Leah should pose.
After taking this photo, Dottie told Leah to stop putting her hand in her pocket.
Dottie suggested Leah should be a little more animated.
Finally, Dottie confiscated Leah’s coffee.
Dottie is probably the only person with whom Leah feels she can let down her guard. When Dottie asked for some action shots, Leah responded with increasing enthusiasm.
